First Peoples Buffalo Jump State Park
First Peoples Buffalo Jump State Park is a place where people can learn about prehistoric life on the plains. Visitors can find out what life was like when hunter gatherers moved across the area and roughly 2.5 million buffalo existed in Montana. We invite guests into our viewing area to hear the account of these First Peoples and their ingenious hunting methods. Visitors can then grab a self-guided trail book and hike our interpretive trail up to the top of the very cliff that was used to jump entire herds of buffalo so long ago. First Peoples Buffalo Jump State Park also offers guest speakers, special events (including Traditional Game Days and The Montana Atlatl Mammoth Hunt), interpretive programs, and field trips.
